Hi guys! Today I am sharing the separates I have made using the Marigold Jumpsuit (by Tilly & the Buttons). I loved this pattern when it first came out, and I bought it, knowing that it might be something I'd wear very occasionally at the beach or on holiday but not everyday..
My first version of this was for my brothers girlfriend, Rachel, for Christmas, and I pretty much made it up as per the pattern instructions. What Katie Sews had an amazing dark floral version on her blog which I loved, and she had taken out the elastic, and it looked great! I decided that probably a looser fit for this would be slightly more flattering for us ladies with curves, so I followed suit :) See below:
After making this full version for Rachel, and really liking how it turned out, I decided to try and make some separates for myself - so that I might be more easily able to incorporate it into my everyday wardrobe.. here are the results:
The top I decided to use a really colourful fun print cotton, and the bottoms I used a remnant denim/linen mix from The Fabric Store. Because the bottoms have to have the elastic waist band, I decided to make a tie/bow feature to disguise it in the front, and added some cute merimekko scrap 'tabs' to the base for a little bit of fun..
You can probably see from the above picture.. but I am feeling like the bottoms are not the most flattering on me! I do like them from the front though.. haha. What to do?
I do love the top though, and I love that I can wear this with anything else in my wardrobe.. the only tiny alteration I had to make was to add ties to the insides of the straps to attach to my bra to stop them falling off (which is totally no big deal)! next time I might experiment a little with the length and angle of the straps. Otherwise this is definitely a winner!
Ill definitely be using this pattern again - maybe to make a linen jumpsuit (shorts) version without the elastic waist. Over all I'm really pleased! Happy sewing everyone!
