Hey guys! Today I am sharing my merimekko blocked Peplum Top - a free pattern drafted by In The Folds for the Peppermint Magazine Sewing School.
For this top I have used a sea blue/green linen offcut (just less than a metre for around $10) from The Fabric Store, and a beautiful piece of merimekko scrap fabric that I already had. This was suppose to be a muslin* of sorts for some slightly more expensive fabric that I had and more hesitant to cut into.. but I actually really love how it turned out! See below for many photos:
*I say 'muslin' because I still intend to actually wear every garment I make but for first time makes I usually just make it out of something I won't cry if i ruin!
One of the things that really attracted me to this top pattern was the neckline at the back! How cool is this?? Often you would have an interesting neckline at the front OR the back, and I love how this has both! I also really love how easy it is to colour block (or pattern block), and to really make something your own, and unique...
One thing I might alter in the future, it just how much 'poof' this has. It could be that the fabric I am using has a little more body or firmness to it than what is recommended, but it sure has full volume! Next time I will be tempted to take it in by an inch or two either side just to make it a little more everyday appropriate..
This has been a great pattern which I have thoroughly enjoyed making - thanks Peppermint Magazine & In The Folds! I do love a good free pattern to play around with ! :) I will me making this again for sure! Happy sewing all!
