Sew Your Own Winter Knit Shift Dress: Fuchsia Mesa Dress (Seamwork Magazine)

Hi all! Today I am sharing my first version of the Mesa Dress by Seamwork Patterns. I also have a pattern hack to share later in the week - too many photos for one post!

Below is how I usually wear this version of the Mesa Dress - with a big scarf and belt, with either jeans or leggings, to keep warm over winter.

I made this version mostly as per the Mesa Dress instructions and pattern - but with 3/4 sleeves (to keep warm!). In hindsight, the 3/4 sleeves make it a bit harder to wear a cardigan or jumper over top.. so the scarf just helps to make it a little more cozy.

I also created a slightly more scooped neck, since this is probably the usual style that I would wear.. but next time I might even scoop it out a fraction more.

I used quite a thick stretchy fabric I bought from spotlight, nothing fancy but in a brilliant fuchsia colour, and since the fabric was so well behaved and flattering I was able to bring it in more at the waist to give it more shape than was indicated by the pattern.

And without the scarf and belt it looks like this:

A happy accident (on the right below) I cut the back longer than the front, and then when it came to make the side slits, I decided to keep it this way! And actually it works really well since this dress is a tad on the short side for me!

Playing in the garden with the dog certainly helped to keep my photographer happy this weekend.. she's pretty photogenic!

All in all this was a really simple and easy dress to make - would highly recommend it! Also YAY its Friday tomorrow! happy end of week, hope its been a good one!
